Bonn - Deutsche Post DHL Group's social responsibility program GoTeach was honored by the CODESPA Foundation with the CODESPA Award in the category "Solidarity Company," for its strong partnership with the SOS Children's Villages Organization. King Felipe VI of Spain presented the award to Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPDHL Group), which developed the GoTeach program in close collaboration with SOS Children's Villages as part of its Group-wide corporate citizenship program. Through its partnership with SOS Children's Villages, which was established in 2010, DPDHL Group today works with Children's Villages in more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East/North Africa region.

From its inception in 2011 until the end of 2018, roughly 15,000 young people from SOS Children's Villages have benefitted from the support of the GoTeach program thanks to the various activities developed in their respective countries.

In cooperation with local partners, DPDHL Group supports young people between the ages of 15 and 25 as they transition from school to the world of work. Along with financial support for educational programs and youth facilities, activities focus on career guidance, teaching basic professional skills and providing young people with their first exposure to the working world. DPDHL Group collaborates closely with local SOS Children's Villages to develop support measures tailored directly to the needs of the community.

"Around the globe, DPDHL Group employees volunteer and take the time to guide young people as they transition into the world of work. They seek to inspire and motivate young people, preparing them for their first steps in the working world by sharing their own professional and personal experiences. It is a real honour to receive such recognition for both our engagement in the field of corporate social responsibility and the commitment that the company demonstrates in each of the 40+ countries in which the partnership is active", explains Ralf Dürrwang, Vice President Corporate Citizenship at Deutsche Post DHL Group. "We are very pleased to see that our cooperation with SOS Children's Villages has been recognized in the form of the CODESPA Award in the category Solidarity Company."

One example of the success of the program is Keeper Bonase, Administrator at DHL Global Forwarding: "I grew up in the SOS Children's Village in Cape Town. Nisa Ebrahim, Product Head for Risk Management & Cargo Insurance - MEA, DHL Global Forwarding, has been my mentor since 2012. The GoTeach program brought us together. In the meantime I have completed my apprenticeship and now have a permanent position at DHL in South Africa. Today I'm helping young people from the SOS Children's Village where I come from."

A distinguishing feature of the Group's partnership with SOS Children's Villages is the close relationships built between the young people and their mentors, the employees of Deutsche Post DHL Group. Through internships, the young people get the chance to take on responsibility and gain insight into a working environment. This unique form of support significantly improves their employability and capacity to grow into self-sufficient adults. Together with SOS Children's Villages, Deutsche Post DHL Group developed YouthCan!, a platform that allows country-level SOS Children's Villages organizations around the world to exchange knowledge and best practices. The goal here is to enable SOS Children's Villages to work with other companies around the world, i.e. independently from DPDHL Group. Furthermore, in countries such as Madagascar, GoTeach has taken a lead in educating young people, and the government has included GoTeach in its activities as an example of how to develop the skills required for entering the world of work.
