DHL partner Susie Goodall arrives safely into Punta Arenas, Chile

Susie, lying in 4th place at the time, was weathering a severe storm with 60 knot winds and massive seas aboard her yacht DHL Starlight when she pitchpoled and lost her mast.

Susie Goodall, the youngest skipper and the only female competitor in the Golden Globe Race had been at sea for 157 days, sailing approximately 20,000 miles.

Bonn,Punta Arenas - DHL welcomed their intrepid sailing partner Susie Goodall back on dry land on Friday morning (CLST). DHL employees as well as family members were there to greet Susie as she disembarked from Tian Fu, the 38,000-tonne cargo ship that rescued her last week in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,000 miles west of Cape Horn.

Susie said "I'd like to express my deepest gratitude to all those involved in my rescue and to DHL for supporting me throughout my journey. Although I wasn't planning on ending up in Chile, it's great to be here now." 

John Pearson, CEO DHL Express Europe, said "We're immensely proud of Susie who has shown great passion and can-do attitude throughout her journey. We are very humbled and impressed by what she has achieved and hope there will be many more great things to come. We're very thankful to all those involved in her rescue and are glad to be able to give her a warm DHL welcome in Chile.

A distress signal was first picked up from her yacht by the Falmouth Coastguard at 11:00 UTC on December 5, who subsequently alerted the Golden Globe Race organizers and the Chilean Maritime Search and Rescue authorities. 

Following a two-day rescue operation which saw Susie craned to safety she confirmed via text that she had been rescued:
