Ahead of the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, Rosberg began the race with an advantage of twelve points in the Drivers' Championship. He has achieved the fastest laps at the Grands Prix in Bahrain, Sochi (Russia), Montreal, Baku, Silverstone (UK), and Sepang (Malaysia).

"It is a nice bonus to receive the DHL Fastest Lap Award 2016 at the end of an incredible year. We have been fighting for the win at every race this season and the fact that I have scored the most fastest laps reflects the awesome job of the team building our incredible car. It has been the fastest car all year - and this award recognises that fact," said Nico Rosberg as he received the prize.

The DHL Fastest Lap Award was introduced in 2007 and has since established itself as a Formula 1® tradition. The award honors the driver who records the fastest lap in the most races over the course of the season.
