Deutsche Post DHL increases the number of vocational training positions in Germany
- Rising demand creates the need for additional 450 training positions
- 2,375 vocational training positions in 15 professions and a wide variety of academic subjects in 2015
Deutsche Post DHL offers more than just traditional vocational training: Young people can also begin an integrated degree program (Duales Studium) at the company.
In the coming year, Deutsche Post DHL will offer 2,375 new vocational training positions. Young people now have the opportunity to apply for apprenticeships and courses of study in 15 professions and 10 academic subjects at the world's leading postal and logistics services company, Deutsche Post DHL. With around 200,000 employees in Germany alone and some 480,000 worldwide, the company is not only one of the largest employers in its home country but also around the globe. The Group aims to place all qualified graduates in permanent internal Group positions once they have completed training. "We are investing heavily in our vocational training efforts and offering opportunities to many different young people in various professional fields," said Melanie Kreis, Human Resources Board Member at Deutsche Post DHL. "For us, well-trained employees are a key factor for continued success in the future."
The majority of vocational training positions offered by the company can be found in the Post - eCommerce - Parcel (PeP) division. "In the tough competitive environment of the mail and parcel industry, in which almost no formal training is available, we are the company that gives young people real professional career perspectives," said PeP Board Member Jürgen Gerdes. His division will offer 2,000 vocational training positions next year, around 500 more than in the previous year. They will be focused primarily on giving young people the skills and knowledge they need to become courier, express and postal service specialists. The Group is also investing in a fresh group of technical mechanics, warehousing specialists and electronics technicians as well as professional office and forwarding clerks. But Deutsche Post DHL also offers more than just traditional vocational training. Young people can also begin an integrated degree program (Duales Studium) at the company, i.e. one that alternate every three months between practice and theory phases and gives students on-the-job experience while they are studying for a Bachelor's degree. In the coming year, Deutsche Post DHL will offer 185 integrated degree program places.
