DHL Freight has launched operations in its new logistics center in Pratteln, one of the most modern facilities of this kind in Switzerland. With the important gateway for the European less-than-truckload (LTL) Euroconnect service, DHL provides customers with even better quality and highest security standards on a total area of 48,000 square meters. The new location also serves as the DHL Freight headquarters in Switzerland.
"With the new, state-of-the-art logistics center we offer our customers the best infrastructure for the European-wide distribution of their goods and support them in the further expansion of their business in the European markets. This also applies to transports of temperature-sensitive shipments, which are steered by the Cold Chain Competence Center in Pratteln," says Roman W. Bisig, Managing Director of DHL Freight Switzerland.
Aside from housing the office building, the logistics center provides approximately 12,200 square meters for loading and reloading, including 62 docking positions for trucks, a warehouse area of 8,000 square meters, a storage facility for dangerous goods and an open customs warehouse. The complete shipment transaction and warehouse area is under video surveillance; electronic access controls, burglar alarm systems and smoke detectors add to enhanced security.
At Pratteln, DHL Freight stays close to the border triangle of Switzerland, France and Germany. The location serves as an important hub for the distribution of LTL shipments to approximately 50 European countries and the transport of partial as well as full-truck loads. With the new logistics center at Pratteln, which was built in 2010, DHL Freight is using a facility of its long-time Swiss partner company Paul Leimgruber AG.
