Deutsche Verpackungsinstitut (DVI - German packaging institute) has announced the winners of the 2007 German Packaging Awards. A special award in the transport packaging category was given to DHL for its GOGREEN PLUSPÄCKCHEN product. "The DHL concept impressed the judges so much that they decided to award a special prize in the transport packaging category," explained Burkhard Lingenberg, Member of the Board of DVI and Chair of the German Packaging Competition Board.
"The intention is to signal that innovative packaging solutions, such as those provided by DHL, can make a difference in combating climate change," said Lingenberg.
With the GOGREEN PLUSPÄCKCHEN and DHL's other environmentally friendly products the company is clearly demonstrating the options for a logistics provider in offsetting avoidable carbon dioxide emissions through innovative environmental schemes.
"As a leading global logistics group our aim is to offer our customers sustainable logistics concepts, from the product itself right through to eco-friendly transport. The GOGREEN initiative helps us meet this objective. The special award by DVI encourages us in our plans to expand our climate-change initiatives in the future," said Boris Mayer, head of department with responsibility for private customers in the PARCEL Germany division.
A total of 21 awards were presented in five categories, ranging from sales to transport packaging. This is the 13th occasion that DVI has honored the most creative and innovative ideas in the world of packaging. An independent jury assessed the entries under a range of standard criteria including functionality, innovation, emotional impact, economy, plus ecology, and safety. Around 300 development and design specialists entered the competition. After winning in the German Packaging Awards, DHL is now eligible to take part in "WorldStar 2007", the international competition run by the World Packaging Organization. The prizes will be awarded in Ghana in May 2008.
