Five Years of DHL Packstations
- Customers are rewarded with "birthday presents"
- 25 additional cities to receive PACKSTATIONS in 2007
Currently, a novelty birthday is being celebrated: five years ago, in January, 2002, DHL established the first 24 PACKSTATIONS in Dortmund and Mainz. Today 700 PACKSTATIONS are in service in over 120 cities nationwide. To date, over 500,000 customers have registered and picked up or sent their parcels - day and night, seven days a week. In 2007 more than 25 additional cities will be connected to the PACKSTATION network, among others Dresden, Giessen, Hamm and Osnabruck.
Together with its customers DHL is celebrating its birthday and will be distributing attractive "birthday presents" in the jubilee week. From January 15 - 19, 2007, the price of PAKETMARKEN (parcel stamps) will be reduced in comparison to the prices in the retail outlets. This means, for example, that sending a parcel weighing up to ten kilos from a PACKSTATION will cost only EUR 5.00.
From the January 18 - 22, 2007, gift certificates worth EUR 5.00 will be given away in cooperation with the internet mail-order bookstores Buch.de and bol.de. In the same period the electronic shipper Conrad and the online designer outlet Dress for Less will assume the shipping costs for parcels ordered from PACKSTATIONS.
"Five years ago the PACKSTATION was an experiment, but today for many people it is taken as something granted - like an ATM/automated teller machine. Our birthday presents are a small thank-you to our customers who have made our PACKSTATION so successful," explains Steffen Frankenberg, PACKSTATION head at DHL.
At the same time he emphasizes that the PACKSTATION is a major component of the expanding round-the-clock services that DHL offers its private customers: "Since November 2006 we offer a convenient new online franking procedure which allows our customers to produce and print PAKETMARKEN by just using their computer at any time, day or night.
Moreover, as of the end of last year we have been testing in the Frankfurt area forty mailboxes for parcels, so-called PAKETBOXES (parcel boxes) and additional innovations are already in the pipe."
