A successful initiative reaches the next stageBonn, 06/02/2007, 11:30 AM CEST
"The future needs your initiative!" Under this motto the city of Bonn and Deutsche Post World Net are calling for entrants for the 2007/2008 Bonn Environmental Award as part of the anniversary celebrating "10 Years of Local Agenda in Bonn". The prize of EUR 5000 was awarded for the first time last year. Its intention is to encourage more involvement in areas which are important to both the city and the company, including for example, environmental protection and conservation, conservation of resources, energy and mobility awareness.
The award is presented to any citizens living or working in Bonn, organizations, associations, companies, and initiatives and rewards voluntary work that has made a contribution to the sustained development of the city.
"Protecting the environment is one of the most important issues of our time and requires each individual citizen to play their part. The Bonn Environmental Award is a wonderful opportunity to reward environmentally friendly action," explains Bärbel Dieckmann, Mayor of Bonn.
"As a logistics company Deutsche Post World Net has a particular responsibility for ensuring that working practices are environmentally friendly. Through the Bonn Environmental Award we wish to show our commitment to the environment at local level," explains Monika Wulf-Mathies, Head of the Corporate Department for Public Policy and Sustainability at Deutsche Post World Net, commenting on the group's initiative.
The prize money is donated by Deutsche Post World Net. The City of Bonn receives suggested names of candidates and preselects entries for the jury whose representatives are members of national associations and institutions, scientific institutes as well as Deutsche Post World Net and the City of Bonn.
