Change in Post Board of Management
- Jürgen Gerdes taking over German mail business from Hans-Dieter Petram
- Additional responsibilities for Frank Appel
Dr. Hans-Dieter Petram (64), the member of the Board of Management at Deutsche Post World Net responsible for the MAIL division, will resign from his position as intended on June 30, 2007, and enter retirement. Jürgen Gerdes (42), the chairman of MAIL Germany Divisional Board, has been appointed a new member of the Board of Management by the Supervisory Board. Beginning on July 1, 2007, he will assume responsibility for the mail and parcel business in Germany. In the newly structured area of responsibility, Gerdes will focus solely on the challenges of Deutsche Post's home market, concentrating in particular on liberalization of the mail market and the increasing substitution of letters with electronic communications. As part of this new structure, Dr. Frank Appel (45), the Board of Management member for Global Business Services with extensive cross-departmental functions, will also assume responsibilities for the areas of MAIL International and MAIL value-added services. In addition, he will oversee the corporate department regulation management (director: Walter Maschke) that had been part of the responsibilities assigned to the Board of Management chairman.
The Board of Management chairman, Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel, praised the exceptional work done by Petrams, who has played a leading role in the Post's Board of Management since 1990: "As someone who has been here from the very beginning, Hans-Dieter Petram has made a significant contribution to converting the postal agency into a cutting-edge private company. He has created the world's leading mail company in terms of performance, quality and service. As a result, his division is in an excellent position for liberalization." He deserves the utmost recognition for his exceptionally successful work and the gratitude of the company's Board of Management, Supervisory Board, stockholders and employees, Zumwinkel said.
Jürgen Gerdes, a Post executive with more than 20 years of experience in high-ranking positions, has been a member of the Divisional Board in Petram's division for five years. He has been chairman of this board for a year. Zumwinkel said Gerdes had all of the qualifications needed to energetically and innovatively develop the German mail business during times of major challenges. At MAIL International and value-added services, Dr. Frank Appel will vigorously move the business forward. In the process, his international experience from his previous leadership of the logistics business and the cross-departmental work with major customers around the world that he has directed since the beginning of 2006 will prove to be beneficial.
The MAIL division will continue to be an individual segment in reporting to the capital markets.
