Starting in July, Deutsche Post will be extending its PC franking offer to parcel dispatch with DHL. The new prepaid parcel stamp is created and printed out on a personal computer using the STAMPIT WEB online franking software. From July on, eBay sellers can be the first to use this new service within Germany, and beginning in the fall, the extension can be drawn on by users of the STAMPIT BUSINESS and STAMPIT HOME versions. At that point, the special PC franking service for parcel dispatch within Europe will also be available. This makes DHL the first European logistics provider to supply its items with integrated routing codes within PC franking.
The online prepaid parcel stamp can be printed out on a standard label or on any sheet of paper and affixed to the parcel. Required are an Internet browser and the free Adobe Reader, version 6.02 or higher. As a function of weight, parcel-post stamps for either 5, 10, or 20 kilos can be printed out.
The self-printed prepaid parcel stamp contains the usual STAMPIT matrix code, which acts as a "digital stamp." It contains the bar codes needed to post and transport parcels as well. This also allows for track and trace of items at any time via STAMPIT WEB or the DHL website.
STAMPIT is already being used on 80,000 personal computers in Germany. Licenses for corresponding independent solutions have been issued in Great Britain and Switzerland.
