Introduction of the new Postcode Book in Berlin
63,000 changes and approximately 3,000 new postcodesBerlin, 09/29/2005, 11:30 AM CEST
On September 29, Hans-Dieter Petram, Member of the Corporate Board MAIL, introduced the new postcode book in Berlin. He handed one of the first copies to members of the petition committee. The petition committee had campaigned for a new edition of the reference work. Sale officially begins on October 4, 2005. This is the first revised edition since the directory's publication in 1993, following the introduction of the new five-digit postcode system. It will be available at the price of 6.95 euro in all Deutsche Post retail outlets.
The new zip code directory contains around 63,000 changes made to the first edition, which resulted from the renaming of streets, new place names or new city developments. Almost 3,000 new postcodes were added. Along with a street and city name directory there is also a directory in the current edition for bulk recipient zip codes and Packstations. The book also contains an extensive service section with information on postal products and services.
The new postcode book is planned for a print run of three million copies. In the event that demand exceeds this first print run, more copies will be printed.
In addition to this printed reissue of the reference work, the postcodes have also been available for years in the current form at the postcode search site on the internet. Furthermore, customers may request zip code information from the customer service hotline at 01802 3333 (EUR0 06 per call from a landline phone in Germany). Interested parties may also order a wall map of the directory via the eFiliale.
