New corporate wear for DHL couriers
- Outfitting in Germany starts in December
- DHL corporate wear for a total of 110,000 employees
- Logistical masterpiece in over 200 countries
Starting in December, DHL couriers in Germany will receive a new outfit. Around 200,000 garments will be sent from the European distribution center in Hamburg to around 9,000 DHL employees in Germany in the coming weeks. 110,000 DHL employees in over 200 countries worldwide will receive 1.4 million garments.
The design of the new corporate wear consists of a red/yellow combination, supplemented with the dark blue of the trousers and the DHL logo. This outfit is thus distinguishable from that of letter couriers, who will continue to wear the dark blue/yellow combination and the post horn.
The DHL couriers were involved in the development from the very beginning: First there were wear trials by 3,600 couriers in eight countries. They were to rate the functionality, comfort, and appearance. Customers were also interviewed with regard to the acceptance and appearance of the new DHL corporate wear. A unique sizing system for DHL was developed, so that the clothing actually fits every employee independent of the sizing systems of the individual countries.
Considering the preparation, planning, and logistical execution, the "new corporate wear" project is one of the most complex within Deutsche Post World Net. There are three regional distribution centers worldwide: in Germany (Hamburg), the USA, and in Hong Kong, as well as a local distribution center in Shanghai. They manage all of the procedures from the arrival of the garments to shipment to the employees.
After the big re-branding campaign in 2003, this is the last decisive step toward unified DHL branding worldwide. All means of transport, buildings, containers, etc. were furnished with the new design two years ago - the red "DHL" logo on a yellow background.
