DHL's free-parcel Friday delivers the goods
Over 1,000 parcels posted even before retail outlets openedBonn, 02/25/2005, 10:30 AM CET
Many customers were in a particular hurry and posted their free DHL parcel - part of Deutsche Post's anniversary celebrations - at the crack of dawn. They were able to do so thanks to PACKSTATION, Deutsche Post's innovative new service.
By 8am, around 1,000 parcels had already been placed inside the 400 Packstations dotted throughout Germany. This is about twenty times the usual volume for that time on a normal workday. The first parcel was posted in Munich and was already on the way to its recipient at 50 seconds past midnight.
The retail outlets were also busy thanks to this one-off campaign, a gift from Deutsche Post to its customers to mark its ten-year anniversary as a stock corporation. Here once again are the details: The anniversary parcels can only be posted on February 25, 2005.
They are insured for up to 500 euros and must be shaped like a cuboid, not exceeding 20 kilograms in weight or 120cm x 60cm x 60cm in size. The customer can track the delivery of her or his parcel by entering its number online at www.dhl.de/sendungsverfolgung.
