DHL's end-to-end Solution for Simple and Safe Wine Shipments
Innovative bottle packaging wins Germany's 2005 Packaging AwardBonn, 04/15/2005, 11:30 AM CEST
DHL offers everyone who wants to send a drop of the good stuff a new end-to-end solution for packaging and transporting bottles of wine within Germany. The innovative centerpiece of the new service is a bottle cube made of Styrofoam that fits snuggly into DHL's Postbox. The newly developed interior packaging is produced by Schlaadt Plastics GmbH, based in Lorch am Rhein, and was honored with one of the best-known awards in the industry, Germany's 2005 Packaging Award. The award will be publicly presented on April 22 during interpack (April 21 - 27 2005) in Düsseldorf. During the award ceremony, a sample of the packaging will be displayed and participants will be able to gather extensive information on the new service. The new transport packaging offers a host of advantages compared to standard forms of packaging for sending bottles.
It makes life easier for the sender by dispensing with time-consuming assembly and taping of bulky boxes. During transport, the combination of a stable Postbox and tailor-made interior packaging protects the wine bottles from knocks, dust, dampness and fluctuations in temperature - thus ensuring that the goods always reach their destination in perfect condition. In addition, the valuable freight is sealed during transport, and is thus protected from unauthorized access. Two cube sizes are offered for up to 5 or up to 15 bottles, thus allowing the Postboxes to be combined flexibly to meet customers' wishes.
Transport logistics are just as user-friendly as handling of the packaging itself. DHL collects the Postbox filled with bottles from the sender during the daily delivery and collection rounds. After the wine has been delivered, DHL takes the empty Postbox straight back again, and the recipient keeps the bottle cube filled with the wine bottles. That means that the wine customer has hardly any packaging to dispose of. Recipients can also use the stackable interior packaging as an ideal space-saving rack to store their wine at constant temperatures.
