Air France - KLM and DHL Express have signed a three-year contract that covers all express delivery within the European Union. DHL Express will deliver all parcels sent to European destinations and all internal documents for the two airlines. The good relations between KLM and DHL Express in the Netherlands have been expanded with the business of Air France.
The signing of the new contract represents an important efficiency improvement for Air France - KLM. In gaining the combined business of Air France and KLM DHL Express has increased its market share in the airline industry.
DHL and KLM have been collaborating intensively for the last three years. Both organisations have invested in joint IT and Finance solutions. For instance, KLM Cargo and DHL set up an interface that automatically transfers shipment (track & trace) information. KLM and DHL have also integrated their invoicing systems.
To arrange procurement for the new contract Air France - KLM set up a Franco-Dutch logistics team which defined the requirements and criteria for the delivery contract within a period of six months. Through close collaboration, online bidding via the strategic sourcing system Procuri, proved to be a huge success for both organisations. KLM has also developed an internal system that enables all KLM establishments to book a DHL courier automatically via a website application.
