The money was raised in July from a campaign launched by Deutsche Post to mark the 50th birthday of SOS Kinderdörfer in Germany. Under the motto "A summer full of happy moments", customers were able to purchase not just a free "Happy Moments" mailing set comprising a postcard and sun stickers but also special products that were available at Deutsche Post's retail outlets. With every purchased stamp set, PLUSPÄCKCHEN or order for storage service, Deutsche Post donated one "happiness" cent to SOS Kinderdörfer in Germany.
The summer campaign is an example of Deutsche Post World Net's diverse social commitment. Deutsche Post has been a partner of SOS Kinderdörfer from the very beginning. The Group pledged to observe seven corporate values in 2003 which included taking on social responsibility. The values state: "We are committed to the welfare of the societies in which we operate and seek to support the goals serving their best interests." The campaign marking the 50th birthday of SOS Kinderdörfer is a token of gratitude for many years of successful cooperation.
