Flexible logistics solution for Formula One driver's online shopBonn, 08/26/2004, 11:30 AM CEST
DHL, through its subsidiary DHL Fulfilment, is the exclusive logistics provider for Michael Schumacher's online fan shop and in the future will be handling its domestic and international merchandise shipping in its entirety. DHL Fulfilment is responsible for order picking and shipping fan articles ordered in the online shop. The company SELL-Marketing operates the shop.
"We looked for a logistics partner who could meet our technical and spatial needs and deliver prompt shipping throughout the world," explains Harald Ernst, Manager of SELL-Marketing. "DHL Fulfilment has no problem fulfilling all that we need in a logistics provider: competent representatives, all services from a single source as well as efficient, state-of-the-art equipment," Harald Ernst continues. And the realization was completed in record time of only six weeks.
Almost 100 different articles can be ordered online at www.michael-schumacher.de. And click rates show sizeable interest in the racing-red memorabilia: some 60,000 page impressions are registered every day on the Formula One star's one and only official fan shop. The orders are received by SELL-Marketing's customer service and forwarded directly to DHL Fulfilment. The logistics provider sorts the fan articles and ships them the very same day.
DHL Fulfilment transacts the SELL-Marketing orders in its Braunschweig multi-user logistics center. Several thousand parcels pass through this facility each day from other DHL Fulfilment customers as well and are fed into the DHL logistics network. "This is our way of offering SELL-Marketing maximum flexibility," says Thorsten Junk, Sales Manager West at DHL Fulfilment. "During peak sales times, after Michael Schumacher has driven a winning race, for example, we can process very large order volumes promptly without any problem at all. When demand lets up there are always other customers who utilize our warehouse capacities," continues Thorsten Junk. Some 15,000 items are planned to be shipped off to Formula One fans before the year's end.
