Transport, packing and customs - DHL handles it all for the SPIEGEL exhibitBonn, 11/11/2004, 10:30 AM CET
DHL is responsible for the complete logistics needs for the exhibit entitled "The Art of SPIEGEL Magazine Cover Illustrations - 5 Decades". The exhibit, currently showing in Hamburg (Deichtor), features more than 200 art pieces made for illustrations for the German news magazine "Der Spiegel".
DHL is in charge of the project's entire logistics and pulls from the services offered by its various business divisions. DHL Trade Fairs & Events is the specialist responsible for exhibition logistics. They handle not only the transport but offer exhibit designers their expertise in all logistics issues. DHL Freight takes care of customs clearance and transport is in the hands of the DHL Express shipping experts.
In preparation for the exhibit, DHL shipped the pieces from Milan (Italy), London, New York, Sydney, Warsaw (Poland) and various German cities to Hamburg. After the exhibit closes in Hamburg on January 20, 2005, it will travel through Germany and then onward to Basel, Switzerland. The exhibit's final stop will be New York. "Our experts will be on location at the appointed time and will make sure that each piece is packed carefully and correctly, transported and unpacked in the same professional manner," explains Hartmut Böck, managing director at DHL Trade Fairs & Events. DHL will also take care of the final transport to New York.
This leg of the exhibit's journey - sent by air - demands particular care and attention on the part of the experts in charge of packing and transport. "The wares are fragile and have to be handled with great care," says Böck. "The only way for the goods to arrive on time and in optimal condition is when we all pull together. It's a one-stop service that DHL can offer thanks to the consolidation of its corporation divisions."
