"We congratulate the winner and are very pleased that our offer met with such enthusiastic response on eBay. We are rounding off the amount and are proud to present EUR 20,000 to the Berlin Sports Foundation," said Marco Demuth, Divisional Board Member DHL Germany.
Around the world, eBay users had ten day to take part in this unique auction. Those potentially interested in bidding could register with eBay until 5:00 p.m. on July 31, 2004. For quite some time only a few bidders were active, rapidly increasing the sum from one to over 3,000 euros. Not until the second week of the auction did other interested parties join in, driving the bids steadily upwards until the last minute.
After four years of renovation, the Olympic Stadium in Berlin is now presenting itself as one of the most modern and architecturally appealing sports and events arenas in the world.
