BSI Certificate for 1.75 million LVA Rheinprovinz (regional insurance office Rhine province) digital files
Federal office presents Deutsche Post Direkt with security certificate
It's now official for Deutsche Post Direkt: the current digitization of LVA Rheinprovinz' files of the insured is transpiring at the highest level of security. The German Information Security Agency (BSI) has checked and certified the project's IT infrastructure and security management for confidentiality, integrity and availability. The agency has only issued around a dozen such certificates to date. The BSI certificate will be given to Deutsche Post Direkt on September 8 at the Digital Management Solutions (DMS) trade fair in Essen.
Deutsche Post Direkt and T-Systems received the order for LVA Rheinprovinz' major project following a Europe-wide invitation for bid in September 2003. Only three months were available to plan the logistical and scan technology and to set up the archive system. The entry of the files, weighing in at a total of around 600 tons, began in January 2004. Within just one year, around 1.75 million existing files were scanned, indexed and saved as PDF files. Six working days after each pick-up, Deutsche Post Direkt must provide the data electronically in DVD format to the customer in Düsseldorf. There are currently around 600,000 file pages scanned daily. The archive system installed by T-Systems saves the documents so that they are secure for inspection, and provides them to the some 2,000 LVA experts within just two seconds. The electronic signature of the scanned documents and the signature check prior to archival transfer form the basis for a secure and legally-compliant archiving process.
LVA Rheinprovinz is one of the largest German carriers of statutory employee pension insurance. With some 4,500 employees, it services more than 6.8 million individuals throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. Deutsche Post Direkt's offer forms part of a Deutsche Post comprehensive solution offer directed to the public sector. The outsourcing solutions range from printing all authority correspondence to running archives and post offices up to supplying office equipment to the authority.
