Stampit licence granted for Great BritainBonn, 02/12/2003, 10:30 AM CET
Following the great success of STAMPIT, Deutsche Post's PC stamping software in Germany, GFT Technologies AG have signed a license agreement to support Lockheed Martin UK to investigate the potential of utilising the software within the UK. The licensing agreement was signed last week.
The United Kingdom is the second country after Switzerland to investigate using this software as a potential application. Other European postal companies are also interested in the application. As early as May last year, Swiss Post decided to test the software on a few selected customers in Switzerland. Following the successful completion of this trial run, an agreement was signed between Swiss Post and Deutsche Post for the licensing of the STAMPIT system in early January this year, paving the way for the launch of a comprehensive trial run in Switzerland.
In Germany, the STAMPIT software is already installed on more than 40,000 PCs, and thousands of highly satisfied customers are using the innovative service. Every STAMPIT customer can frank his mail quickly, simply and inexpensively via the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to the software, customers only need a standard Pentium PC with Internet access as well as an inkjet or laser printer. Users purchase the postage beforehand at the so-called Postage Point, the virtual postage stamp counter on the Internet.
PC franking is suitable primarily for small offices, the self-employed or associations that use a PC to create or address their letters. The franking is printed as a matrix code, together with the recipient's address, onto envelopes, labels or, if window envelopes are used, directly onto documents.
In October last year, Deutsche Post received the "Award for Excellence in Secure Electronic Business for 2002" for the PC franking software STAMPIT on the strength of the latter's innovative technology and its great practical benefits. This award, presented by the European Electronic Messaging Association (EEMA), goes to pioneering European projects in the area of e-business security.
