Printing and franking in a single step
Deutsche Post announces a new co-operation with SAP and Sun MicrosystemsBonn, 03/12/2003, 10:30 AM CET
Deutsche Post announced a new co-operation with SAP and Sun Microsystems at CeBIT 2003 in connection with Stampit, its PC franking software. In the future, Stampit will also be integrated into the SME solution SAP Business One and complete office software StarOffice. For the user, this means that letters can then be printed and franked directly from the respective software in one step.
Deutsche Post was the first European company to introduce the so-called "Internet postage stamp" just two years ago. Meanwhile, some thousands of customers take advantage of PC franking. A reason behind the market success is Deutsche Post's co-operation with software companies. Stampit is already integrated into some Office products - and soon SAP Business One and Sun Microsystems' StarOffice for Windows will be added to the list. "Co-operation with leading software companies such as SAP and Sun Microsystems is strategically important to us. It makes for easy and problem-free PC franking using our customers' available software solutions. Outgoing mail can thus be efficiently and economically franked," in the words of Bernd Meyer, the Deutsche Post executive responsible for Stampit.
Franking via SAP Business One will be available in the fourth quarter of 2003. Using Stampit with Sun Microsystems' new StarOffice Version 6.1 for Windows, franking will be possible via StarOffice Writer and StarOffice Calc from mid-year.
Deutsche Post's PC franking is first and foremost geared toward small- and midsize companies. Mail can be easily and conveniently franked from anywhere over the Internet. Other than the Stampit software, all that is needed is a commercial Pentium PC with Internet access and an ink jet or laser printer. The postage is purchased and paid in advance by direct debit on Postage Point, the virtual postage counter in the Internet.
Further details about Stampit as well as the current version for download and free testing of the demo version can be accessed at www.stampit.de.
