Danzas AEI Intercontinental, subsidiary of Deutsche Post World Net, and to be known as DHL Danzas Air & Ocean as of April 1, 2003, today unveiled its new RM30 million (USD 7.9 million) IT-supported Logistics Centre in Puchong, Selangor. This is the largest warehousing facility and the new headquarters for DHL Danzas Air & Ocean in Malaysia.
The opening of DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Malaysia's Logistics Centre was officiated by YB Dato' Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik, Minister of Transport, Malaysia and Dr Klaus Zumwinkel, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Post World Net.
According to Dr Zumwinkel, the new Logistics Centre has been established to meet growing market demands for logistics in Asia. "Increasingly, companies are recognising the need to outsource complex and laborious logistics operations to professional 3rd party or even 4th party logistics providers, who have the worldwide network and know-how to create a more efficient supply chain process by continuously adding value to the clients' success."
"We are confident that DHL Danzas Air & Ocean will help to further develop the logistics business in Malaysia, playing an important role in helping to place Malaysia on the world map - as a preferred centre for logistics solutions," concluded Dr Zumwinkel.
Mr Thomas Nieszner, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Asia-Pacific, said "Based on Malaysia's contribution of 7.9% towards the Asia-Pacific net sales in 2001, we are optimistic to achieve a double-digit growth in the next few years. DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Malaysia is successfully capitalizing on the trend towards outsourcing logistics and is making steady progress towards becoming number one in the Malaysian logistics industry."
According to IATA (International Air Transportation Association) rankings in 2001, Danzas AEI Intercontinental was already the Malaysian market leader for airfreight. It has also been winning the accolades as number one in airfreight for the past ten years.
Headed by Mr Tee Tuan Leong, Managing Director DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Malaysia, the Logistics Centre commenced operations in June 2002. The warehouse has already secured an impressive 90 percent occupancy and the company is confident of filling all available pallet positions by the second quarter of 2003.
The 18,581 sq m new Headquarters-cum-warehousing facility comprises 16,723 sq m warehouse space and 1,858 sq m office space. There is an additional 2,787 sq m cold room on the mezzanine floor. With 11,500 pallet positions in the warehouse, it has a large storage capacity to house up to one million carton boxes. Equipped with humidity-controls and advanced security systems, the Logistic Centre has its own customized warehouse management system called Logis Warehouse Management Systems, a highly functional global management system to manage inventory within the four walls of a single or multi-warehouse environment.
The Centre is located strategically within easy access to major highways linking Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, and is 30 km away from the country's two major air and sea gateways, Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Port Klang.
The new Logistics Centre offers a full spectrum of IT-supported logistics solutions including Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Domestic Freight (Cargo consolidation to East Malaysia), Intercontinental Integrated Services, Warehousing and Distribution Services, Project Forwarding, Cargo Management and Customs Clearance.
DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Malaysia has a comprehensive logistics network of 9 offices and warehousing facilities located throughout Peninsular and East Malaysia in Penang, Butterworth, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Port Klang, Melaka, Johor Bahru and Kuching. The company employs a total of 616 staff.
