Deutsche Post World Net requires paper suppliers to use products resulting from sustainable forest managementCologne, 06/05/2003, 11:30 AM CEST
Following a protest organised by Greenpeace at Deutsche Post World Net's Annual General Meeting in Cologne, the Group issued the following statement:
Even before Greenpeace staged its protest, Deutsche Post World Net had already requested its paper supplier Herlitz to give an undertaking that it would comply with sustainable forest management principles. The aim is to ensure that when paper is manufactured, the entire paper pulp chain is certified. Unless this can be guaranteed, the Group will in future remove the products concerned from its range.
Deutsche Post World Net certainly does understand Greenpeace's desire to protect virgin forest stands. To this end, constructive discussions have already been held with Greenpeace and Herlitz. The Group has for some time now been bringing its influence to bear on its suppliers to encourage them to make their products environmentally-friendly. This applies both in terms of the environmentally-friendly selection of materials and in terms of their collaboration with subcontractors and primary producers.
Incidentally, Deutsche Post World Net's first environmental report was published around two weeks ago.
