Deutsche Post World Net and Emirates Post intend to work more closely together. This was agreed between Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Post World Net, and Ahmad Humaid al Tayer, Minister for Communications and Chairman of the Board of Management of Emirates Post in Dubai yesterday. One of the aims of the agreement is the reciprocal use of their respective sorting centres for international mail items. In concrete terms, it involves Deutsche Post World Net using the sorting centre at Dubai airport and Emirates Post using the International Mail Centre at Frankfurt Airport.
"The Memorandum is an important step for Deutsche Post World Net's global activities. We will be able to organise our processes even more efficiently with a view to mail dispatch into the Middle East and the Asian region," Dr. Zumwinkel said when signing the Memorandum in Dubai. DHL has already been an important partner for Emirates Post in the past, namely in the shipment of international express items. As a fully-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Post World Net, DHL now has a host of new opportunities for extending this co-operation. At the same time, Deutsche Post World Net and Emirates Post intend to investigate the possibility of launching a joint venture. This will involve transmitting international mail items electronically to a print centre in Dubai, where they will be printed out and sent to the addresses.
