Deutsche Post World Net has acquired the remaining shares of the joint venture company Securicor Omega Holdings Limited based in Sutton, United Kingdom for EUR 247 million. The sale is subject to the approval by the European Commission. After successfully entering the British parcel and logistics market by means of its original fifty percent stake in early 1999, Securicor Omega can now be fully integrated into the Group's European network.
A few months ago the Group's chairman, Dr Klaus Zumwinkel, announced that its national and international parcel and express business as well as the global logistics business with a total revenue of EUR21bn would be combined under the DHL umbrella. After acquiring Securicor Omega , further cost and revenue synergies will be able to be achieved within the Group. The new principle 'one brand - one face to the customer' will simultaneously become visible to Deutsche Post World Net's British and Irish parcel customers.
In addition this acquisition improves the Group´s positioning for entering the British mail market. Following the necessary licence, initial pilot mail projects are already underway. Deutsche Post World Net will in future develop these activities.
