Deutsche Post receives certificate for quality management in mail production09/01/2005, 01:00 AM CEST
TÜV Rheinland certifies Deutsche Post's mail division according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000
Deutsche Post fulfills the international standards for a functional quality management system in its mail production operational processes. Because of this, divisional board members Uwe Brinks and Christian Stiefelhagen have now received the corresponding certificate handed to them by Dr. Wolfram Oppermann, board member for technology of the TÜV Rheinland Group. The independent certification is not only in recognition of the successful expansion of the existing quality management system, but also an important criterion for competition.
To accomplish this, Deutsche Post put their mail production operational processes to the test and conformed to the demanding criteria of ISO Norm 9001:2000 within the span of just one year. This short span of time from the start of the project in August of 2004 to the completion of the certification was possibly because the company had already set up a comprehensive and extensive quality management system with its numerous operating centers, processes, and employees, structured according to DIN EN ISO 9001 guidelines.
In connection with the certification procedures for such a process-oriented management system, an extensive management handbook for all operational units was created. More than 120 process management agents and auditors had to be chosen and trained and the 130,000 affected employees also had to be informed. Internal audits in 50 branch offices, the regional business departments, and all the way to the responsible departments at company headquarters were necessary in order to fulfill the requirements.
However, the process is not completed with the awarding of the certificate. To maintain and expand the standard they have reached, all operational departments will have annual internal audits conducted to monitor the effectiveness of the quality management system and given a rating as part of a management review. To maintain the validity of the certificate over a long period of time, the mail division of Deutsche Post must allow annual external audits by the independent experts of the TÜV Rheinland Group.
After the successful certification of DHL Express Deutschland a few months ago, Deutsche Post World Net is now certified as a quality provider in both of the core areas of its operational activity according to DIN ISO 9001:2000.
