OBI contracts DHL with the delivery of its do-it-yourself stores10/20/2005, 01:00 AM CEST
OBI, the leading provider in the area of do-it-yourself stores, is transferring its national logistics to DHL. The express and logistics specialist of Deutsche Post World Net will handle the logistics for 341 OBI stores in Germany starting in the spring of 2006. The goal of the cooperation is optimization of the entire value-added chain through more efficient processes and a need-centered management of corresponding processes. An expansion of the partnership to further logistics areas is being planned.
DHL Freight will transport around 260,000 part-load shipments with an anticipated total weight of 50,000 tons. Ultimately, goods will be loaded at up to 900 vendors in Germany and areas near the borders and distributed to the 341 OBI stores in Germany within 24 hours. A specially equipped control center manages the administrative processes and assures smooth flow in the daily business with additional service functions. Complete transparency in the tracking of the shipments is also guaranteed.
"We are confident in the choice of our new logistics partner, which has access to multinational and multiple location know-how as well as an excellent network, which represents a fundamental basis for our strategic reorientation," said Sergio Giroldi, CEO OBI AG.
"OBI has been one of our desired partners for a long time. We are excited that the market leader has chosen DHL and we will do everything to exceed the expectations put upon us," said Peter E. Kruse, Member of the Board of Management Deutsche Post World Net and responsible for DHL Express Germany and Europe.
