Capital Markets Tutorial Workshop 18/04/2013 and 19/04/2013
Our aim is to continuously enhance investor understanding of Deutsche Post DHL. With this in mind, we held a tutorial workshop on pension and provisions accounting on April 18th, 2013 in London and April 19th, 2013 in Frankfurt, respectively.
Investors were addressed by Lawrence Rosen, CFO of Deutsche Post DHL; Andreas Muzzu, Partner, Ernst & Young; Benedikt Köster, Head of Group Pensions, Deutsche Post DHL; and Andreas Duhr, Head of Accounting Policies, Deutsche Post DHL.
The tutorial aimed to offer analysts and investors insights into different kinds of pension plans and other provisions. Addressing the most common questions and misconceptions, we shed light on the major principles of pension and provisions accounting, their implications for the income statement and cash flow statement at Deutsche Post DHL as well as their expected development going forward.
Besides defining and discussing different kinds of pension schemes such as defined benefit schemes, defined contribution schemes and civil servants pensions, insights were provided into other provisions at Deutsche Post DHL. The presentation also explained how the accounting changes arising from the upcoming implementation of the new IAS 19R accounting standard will affect pension and provisions accounting. Finally, the presentation summarized the current and expected effects of pensions and other provisions on free cash generation and confirmed the development anticipated for the free cash flow components and finance strategy at Deutsche Post DHL.
The Provisions Tutorial was presented at each location using the same presentation, which we have also made available for download.
